In a recent interview on Cricket’s Match Ki Baat show, cricket legend Wasim Akram expressed his thanks to God for his successful bowling career before T20 cricket became popular. He said it should be against the rules to score 100 runs in just five overs of any cricket match.
Akram also talked about how batting skills have improved a lot, making it tough for bowlers. He said nowadays bowlers seem to be paid just to get hit by batsmen. He said this after Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma scored 125 runs in six overs against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
“Thank God, I am not playing cricket in this era. I mean they are scoring 270 in 20 overs. It’s like 450 or 500 in a 50-over game. If it happened once, it was okay, but this has happened three-four times, which shows how strong the batting is,” Akram said.
“It is illegal to score 100 runs in 5 overs. How can this happen? Even if you bowl full-tosses, it is tough to do it. For bowlers, it has become like take money and get destroyed here. I feel for the bowlers in this format,” he added.
Akram pointed out that while boundary sizes may have shrunk, most cricket grounds remain the same as they were in the past, which underscores the exceptional achievements of today’s batters. “Heinrich Klaasen is one of my favorite players in the world,” he stated during the show.

On the topic of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting prowess in IPL 2024, Akram expressed doubt that any franchise could match it, suggesting that only an international team might have a chance.
He concluded by singling out SRH’s Heinrich Klaasen as one of his favourite white-ball players. He praised Klaasen’s remarkable ability to hit sixes and commended Abdul Samad for his effective role as a finisher. Additionally, he emphasized the significance of Pat Cummins’ leadership, noting its calming influence on the SRH dressing room.
In a lighthearted moment, Akram humorously mentioned that he felt obligated to include SRH in his predictions for the IPL 2024 top 4 teams because his wife hails from Australia.
