Trials of Trolling
The Karnataka-born cricketer faced severe trolling due to a disappointing performance in the men’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The online abuse extended even after he was dropped from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in March. Reflecting on this, according to a report by Times Now, Rahul remarked,
“There was a time when I was getting a lot of criticism & lot of trolls inspite giving decent performances. That was very painful.”
The trolls were also addressed in various podcasts by famous personalities in India.

Injury Woes and Career Uncertainties
Rahul’s challenges were compounded when he sustained a quadriceps injury while captaining the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL. The severity of the injury meant an extended recovery period. “I got injured in IPL – came to know I need 5-6 months to recover so I go through a lot of pain during the phase,” he shared.
He further highlighted the mental battles he faced, knowing the arduous recovery process from previous injuries. The uncertainty of playing in the World Cup in 2023 only added to his worries.
Determined Comeback
The resilience KL Rahul showcased during these challenges seems to have positively impacted his mental makeup. This adversity likely played a role in the grit and determination he displayed in his recent spectacular performance against Australia in Chennai.
Receiving unwavering support from the Indian team management in One-Day Internationals has enabled him to get back on track and deliver match-winning performances.
KL Rahul Said, " In my little career, I've already faced a lot of injuries & surgeries. So, I know the process of come back. This time I had only one motivation that I had to be backed before this home World Cup & every day I woke up saying myself – we've to win the world cup. " pic.twitter.com/wOdfemvKPd
